Micmac Farms was established in 2009 as a community health project focused on creating access to healthy foods. Momentum and opportunity expanded the gardens with the construction of facilities and the planting of more than 4-acres of apple, plum, blueberry, and raspberry orchards. The mission of Micmac Farms is to provide a source of sustainably-produced wholesome foods for northern Maine communities while supporting meaningful employment opportunities in agriculture. Micmac Farms promises never to use chemicals or sprays in our cultivation methods and seeks create a healthy environment where the earth flourishes. Today Micmac Farms spans 28-acres of fertile farm land and forest while annually cultivating 2-acres of mixed produce, 4 acres of orchards, and a 34,000-gallon recirculating aquaculture facility that produces 12,000 lbs of fresh Maine brook trout. Micmac Farms embodies the deep sense of respect for the natural environment that has always been embraced by the Micmac people.
